Why is a flight from Tokyo to Honolulu so expensive

Why is a flight from Tokyo to Honolulu so expensive?
It is only a seven hour flight but the cost for a mid-March flight is between $1200 and $1300! That is the same cost as if I flew from Japan to New Jersey! Why is the cost so high and is there anything you can recommend to find a better price? Thanks!

China Airlines has a round-trip flight for $798. There are many travel search engines: Orbitz, Travelocity, Kayak, and Expedia are a few. Try to Google "Tokyo-Honolulu Airfare" and you will get many sources.

It's that expensive because folks will pay that much for a seat. Tokyo-Honolulu is a pretty big market.
