I have found that the time of day really makes no difference. I fly a lot and have the best luck when I book at least 3 weeks out and mid-morning flights have always been cheapest for me. Try continental.com . In my opinion they are the best in the Industry, and one of their main hubs is in Houston, TX. So, that makes them pretty cheap for TX flights.
