what will happen if there is not enough time to make a connecting flight

what will happen if there is not enough time to make a connecting flight?
Greetings- I am flying from the East Coast home to Honolulu tomorrow. My last connection is at Houston for the long haul back to the island, and I am concerned the layover for my ticket is not enough time to make the connection. The layover is 36 minutes, and I need to change from Northwest @ terminal A to Continental @ terminal E. The change requires utilizing a shuttle bus to get to terminal B, where I must then go through security again, and then a train to go to each other terminal (C, D, then finally E). 36 minutes is not enough time to do this! (I did it the other day on the way out, and it took an hour and 15 minutes) Is there anything I can do to try to catch my flight? Will the airlines hold the plane for me? Try to get someone at the airlines/airport to get me out of the plane and ferry me across the airport quickly? Or is there no hope to catch this flight (which is the last one from houston to honolulu, only two per day)?

You're right - that is really not enough time. You can tell the F/A that you have a tight connection when you land in Houston, but the problem is that you are changing from one airline to another - they really have no obligation since it is not their airline that is bringing you in.

No, Continental won't hold your plane. Get off as quick as you can and *hustle* over! Why not try to stand by for an earlier flight into IAH, to avoid rush?

You need to get with the airline......you do not have enough time.....you will never make it......dumb question.....but did you consider the time change form the East Coast to Houston......that gets me sometime.........the airlines will not make any concessions for you......you may want to stay over one night......I know......but it may be the only way.......

If you were on the same airline all the way through, they would put you on the next available flight. Because you are using two separate airlines, you might have to buy another ticket. Sorry but it is your fault for setting the transit time too low. BTW, they will never hold the flight for you.
