How to get to Tahiti from Honolulu

How to get to Tahiti from Honolulu?
I've looked online and the fares are ridiculous.. I mean.. I've seen cheaper fares leaving from NEW YORK. I think I'm searching horribly here.. what is the best way to get to Tahiti from Honolulu? Does anyone know the average price for these kind of flights? and do I have to go through California? Thank you :)

There's a direct flight between Hawaii and Tahiti that only goes once a week. Check with Hawaiian Airlines. I believe the flight runs on Saturdays, but I could be wrong.

Honolulu to Tahiti is a bitch. at least $1800 for a round trip. Do you want to go back to Hawaii? But you can get a round trip to Aucland New Zealand for around $1200 bucks. then work it out from there. Air Tahiti Nui out of LA is the cheap way ($1250 round trip) from the states but you know that drill. and a flight from New zealand to tahiti is another $1200 so that does not help either. Even a sail boat is no picnic from Honolulu. Most people just do the pineapple express from Mexico on across. Which is a great cruise with a following wind etc. but does not help you at all. just a thought... go down to the Alawai harbor and go to the Hawaii Yacht Club. see if you can bum a lift south. Hang out at the bar there for a couple of days and buy some drinks... it could happen. Hey I found one for you! Hawiian airlines DEPARTING Coach January 29, 2011 04:40 PM - 10:30 PM Oahu - Honolulu(HNL) to Papeete, Tahiti(PPT) RETURNING Coach February 06, 2011 12:30 AM - 06:20 AM Papeete, Tahiti(PPT) to Oahu - Honolulu(HNL) * Depart ticket: * $540 * Return ticket: * $540 Now that is getting close to reasonable.
