How can I access the commuter terminal in Honolulu from Interisland terminal without leaving the secure area

How can I access the commuter terminal in Honolulu from Interisland terminal without leaving the secure area?
I am arriving in Honolulu on a Continental flight and departing to Kapalua Maui on an Island Air flight from the commuter terminal. I spoke with information at the Honolulu terminal and they stated I could contact someone at gate 62 or 65 (hard to understand so I'm not sure which). Does anyone know what the procedure is for getting to the commuter terminal and Island Air from the Interisland terminal by way of a secure path and not having to leave the secure area and reenter? I'm sure it can be done but cannot understand the person whenever I call the Honolulu information telephone number.

A couple of weeks ago I arrived in Honolulu on an American flight. From Honolulu, we were taking and Island Air flight (Hawaiian Airlines code share) to Lanai City on Lanai. The connecting flight left from the Commuter Terminal. We didn't have to leave the secure area. When you get to the commuter terminal, the first thing you will see is a counter with a phone. There is a sign that directs you to call for more instructions. Once you call they will tell you when your flight will board and when to be there. There was no air conditioning and we had about 45 minutes to wait, so we went back up the escalator to the air conditioning. There are several Hawaii information desks in the HNL terminals. You can always stop and ask them for help. (FYI - this is a great place to get free maps that are much better than the ones the rental car companies give you.) One thing to bear in mind is will you be checking luggage or not. We didn't check luggage. (We have traveled all over and have found that you save a lot of time and hassle by traveling light and not checking luggage.) I'm not sure if you would have to collect your luggage from Continental in HNL or if they can check your luggage straight through to Kapalua. That would be a good question to ask Continental Kapalua is fabulous...one of my favorite places in Hawaii. I often write about it at http://www.govisithawii.com They recently opened up some new hiking trails there and the Plantation Course was rated the best resort course by Travel + Leisure Golf magazine. Be sure to have either breakfast lunch or dinner at the Plantation House restaurant there. It's one of the best on the island. Enjoy! Edit: Doh...I just noticed you are a HawaiianNut and top Hawaii answerer...so you probably didn't need the info on Kapalua and getting maps, etc. :-)

Well, when I've transferred Island Air flights before, I've waited for the person meeting the flights to be done letting passengers into the building. She then escorted me around the outside of the building into the waiting area, so that I could bypass security. But that was the same building. When I got there and realized how long I had to wait, I kind of wished I'd gone over to the other side to get something to eat and drink. There are refreshments in the commuter terminal, but the options are limited. I'm guessing you might use the same procedure, only they walk you from building to building. Your flight attendant can help you out with that. But getting through security in the commuter terminal is nothing like it is over in the big buildings. You might be in line behind five people, or you might not have a line, depending on the time of day. Unless your transfer is really short, you might as well get a bite to eat on the Interisland side, then walk or take the Wiki Wiki shuttle to the commuter terminal, show your boarding pass and ID about a half hour before your flight.

I did it last year, you need to check your luggage to your final destination on the connecting flight and take the "wiki wiki" trolley, follow the signs, to the inter-island terminal, there you arrive to the secure area, and you get your boarding passes at the flight gate, if you did not get them before with your continental flight. If you do not or cannot check your luggage to the final destination I am afraid you have to leave the secure area, collect your luggage, walk or take a shuttle (free) to the Inter-island terminal, check in and go through security again.
