is it safe to fly (airplanes) at night

is it safe to fly (airplanes) at night?
I am going to travel with my family in august from LA to Honolulu, our flight back leaves Honolulu at 9:00 at night and we arrive at 5:30 in the morning. Is is safe to fly over the ocean at night? or in general is it safe to fly at night at all?

yes it it totally fine it is just the same as flying in daylight. pilots have lots of hi-tec gadgets in the cockpit so there is no need to worry at all. why would they fly at night if it wasnt safe

Airplanes are the safest mode of transport. However in relative terms I think it's safer to travel during day time because if god forbids something happens going over oceans as it's easier to find survivors. Not trying to scare you or anything, just putting it out there using common sense. Personally I don't care when I take the plane, I've travelled during night times and day times. 99.9% if the times, modern airplanes are equipped with everything to make sure passengers are safe in case of a serious emergency. Have a safe trip!

Yes of course, the pilots rely on computers and flight instruments to navigate the world's airspace they don't do it by looking out the window so it doesn't matter if its dark, foggy or raining. Literally thousands of planes all over the world take off every single night and land safely so don't worry.

Sure. Airlines have been flying overnight since the 1930s. Most flights from the US to Europe are overnight, as are all flights from the US to Asia. They all get there.
5 :
Absolutely, it's safe. Planes have all sorts of equipment to keep them on track at any time, day or night. Good luck!

Yes, it is very safe to fly at night. I would do it any day. Have a great trip!
7 :
its completely safe. How do you think flights that are 18 hours take off and land safely?
8 :
It's perfectly safe to fly at night. Probably even smoother at night than during the day since I think turbulence has at least part to do with heat columns of air, and at night there's obviously no sun to heat the air.

Flying at night is no different from flying during the day, for commercial airliners. All airline flights are flown by instruments. It is not necessary for the pilots to be able to see outside the windows. If it's daylight and the weather is clear, the pilots have more to enjoy while looking outside the windows, but if it's nighttime and the weather is bad, that's not a problem. There are enough instruments in the cockpit to allow pilots to fly to the destination airport and even land the airplane without ever once looking out the windows. You could cover the windows with cardboard and they'd still be able to complete the trip. In fact, commercial airliners are actually flown by computers for most of a trip, so the pilots just watch and monitor the computers. The computers can also land the airplane if necessary, although pilots usually do that by hand because it's one of the most enjoyable parts of the trip for the pilots. The computers don't care if it's day or night outside. So flying at night is no problem at all. There are even private pilots who fly their small airplanes at night with no problems. If you have the right instruments aboard, you're fine.
