American Airlines changed my flight schedule, am I entitled to some sort of compensation?
I booked a vacation to Kauai more than 6 months in advance for my partner and I using all my American Airline miles to reserve 2 FIRST CLASS SEATS. We booked directly on AA.com doing a JFK-LAX (Los Angeles) flight and then a LAX-LIH (Kauai) flight. Recently, American Airlines changed the time of our LAX-LIH flight which interferes with our first flight time. When I called Reservations to correct this they advised that my ONLY options are: (1) leave JFK the night before and stay in a hotel at LAX airport, however they are NOT paying for the hotel stay. OR (2) fly LAX-HNL (Honolulu) but they WILL NOT pay for our connecting flight to LIH. I don't understand how I will eventually have to pay MORE MONEY out of pocket for something the AIRLINE changed. Is there something i can do?

Aside from the options that have been presented to you, the other alternative that you have, when no options presented are acceptable to you, is to cancel your tickets and receive a redeposit of all of your miles, with the redeposit fees waived. Schedule changes occur with some frequency, and the airline will work with the passenger to make reasonable accommodations to deal with those schedule changes. Typically, however, reasonable accommodations do not include the compensation for additional expenses -- these are generally not covered by the airline and become the responsibility of the passenger. It's probably not the answer you want to hear, but I don't think that American (or any airline, for that matter) will give you any other options that don't involve you spending some sort of money, if there are no other acceptable routes.

It would be nice if AA compensated you but they will not so trying to ask for compensation will not work. All you can do is try to work out an alternate schedule such as taking an earlier flight to LAX.
